Eligibility and
audition procedure
The EWS Summer Jazz Camp is appropriate for instrumentalists who want to gain or expand on jazz skills. Entrance into the ensemble is through an audition process, in order to ensure that the experience will work out for everyone. Participants should be able to read notes on their instrument. We will ask you to play scales and arpeggios, a prepared piece, and sight read a basic piece. Drummers will be asked to demonstrate basic knowlege of jazz rhythms. Guitarists, bassists and pianists will additionally demonstrate ability to play chords. Eligible students are enrolled until all positions are filled or the enrollment period is closed. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis, and when available positions are filled, further applicants may be put onto a wait list.
Conduct expectations This camp is for kids that can focus on making music for extended periods of time. Ample supervised breaks will be given between rehearsals, but during rehearsals all musicians will be attentive and respectful. Disruptive or persistently tardy participants will be expelled without refund at the director's discretion.
