Summer Jazz Camp - Audition

Audition Information

The EWS Summer Jazz Camp is appropriate for intermediate and advanced instrumentalists who want to gain or expand on jazz skills.

No jazz experience is necessary. We will have ample opportunities for both experienced and new jazz players.

Our application process is selective because we want to know that we can meet your musical needs. Auditions are not intended to be competitive or intimidating.

Audition process (download scale sheets)
- Play any of these major scales (concert keys): C, F, B-flat, E-flat, or G
- Play any of these natural minor scales (concert keys): c, a, or d
- Play the B-flat or F blues scale
- Play a simple prepared piece of at least 16 measures. Audition pieces can be in any style.
- Sight read from a basic jazz chart.
- Guitarists, pianists: also play chords as requested.
- Drummers: demonstrate knowledge of jazz rhythms.

Procedure:

Complete the application form and submit it to the camp director.
The camp director will contact you to schedule an audition at a convenient time.
